Quick Links
Below is team information about the Academy Bullets Swim Club. This information is fairly general and families should feel free to contact Head Coach Todd Capen (Aurora) or Mike Laurich (Lewis) if they have any specific questions.
Two Sites - One Team
The Academy Bullets
have two separate sites that our team is based out of - Aurora and
Romeoville. Our Aurora team practices out of Marmion Academy and the
Vaughan Athletic Center. Our new Romeoville site practices at Lewis
University. Both sites swim under the Academy Bullets name at swims
meets they attend.
Practice Info
Practices
are offered each weekday and on Saturdays for certain groups.
Practices may be canceled periodically. Schedule changes will always be
posted on our team web site under the "Latest Bulletins" section (Home
page), the News page, and on our monthly calendars for each group. Our
general practice schedule can be found on the Registration Information
page of this site.
Tryout Results
Once tryouts have
been completed at the beginning of each season, we will post our tryout
results within 48 hours on our Registration Information page and on our
home page. All families will also be contacted with tryout results and
registration instructions via email.
Registration Process
Registration
for the swim team is done online through our registration link on the
left hand side of each page. To sign up online, swimmers must be a
returning member of the team from the previous season or have attended
our tryouts and been notified they had made our swim team. There are
many benefits to this online registration - most notably the ability to
use credit cards and deduct fees directly from your checking account.
Fees can be paid in one lump sum or divided out in monthly installments. All
swimmers must pay the USA Swimming membership fee once a year. New swimmers must be registered by the
first day of their group's practice in order to compete for the team.
Meets / Meet Fees
We offer a number of local and travel
meets for all members of our team. We typically have 1 invitational per
month that is local and once in awhile have a travel invitational out
of state. Families will sign-up for meets using our Meet Sign-up link
that can be found on the left hand side of each page of the web site.
You will be able to log on to your family account and select which meets
and days you would like to attend. Once the meet deadline passes, no
changes will be made to our team entry. After the meet deadline closes
and before the meet begins, those families who signed up for the meet
will be charged using a credit card or direct checking account...just
like online registration. A meet schedule with information and entry
deadline dates can be found on the Events/Meets page of the team web
site. Most 2-3 day meets cost approximately $20-25 to compete the
entire weekend.
Team News
We have a lot of
information to get our to our families throughout the season. We send
out periodic emails with team reminders and last minute changes as well
as general information at least once per week. We also regularly update
our web site as it is our main information hub.
Parent
Volunteering / Fundraising
Fundraising is a very important aspect of the Academy Bullets Swim Club. Fundraising helps cover many of our costs. It help to provide the best environment for our swimmers by using the funds to hire more coaches, purchase equipment, etc. Fundraising responsibilities are divided out by
families and and not by number of swimmers. What this means is that a
family with four swimmers has the same responsibility/fundraising
requirements as a family with one swimmer. We have four main
fundraising activities:
- Speedo Fall Open swim meet - October 2011 at Marmion Academy
- Speedo Invitational swim meet - January 2012 at Marmion Academy and Vaughan Athletic Center
- Annual Advertising Campaign - December 2011
All Bullet swimmers are entered in team hosted meets. All families are required as part of their team commitment to volunteer to work a few sessions at each meet. More details on these meets will be communicated to all Bullet families as they approach. In conjunction with the Speedo Invitational, each family is also responsible for participating in the team Advertising Campaign. Ads are typically due in December each year. Details on this will also be emailed out as soon as the program gets closer. Families that do not participate in any of the programs will be billed accordingly.
Equipment
There
are some requirements of equipment and apparel for our team. Each of
our practice groups has different equipment required for practice use.
These items will be described in our Apparel Order Form once the season
get under way. All swimmers on the team must have a team suit to
compete in meets. All swimmers 9&Older must purchase a team warm-up
jacket. All apparel is available online to team members and our
apparel store will be visiting each of our practice facilities during
the beginning of each season for swimmers and families to try on apparel
for sizing and to place orders in person.
If you have
any questions about the swim club, please feel free to email Todd Capen
or contact him by phone at (847) 571-7644.
