Safety Checklist

- Always enter the water feet first
- There are many unknown hazards hidden under different areas of the water, always be aware
- Check water depth and temperature before entering
- Beware of deep drop offs. You could be in waist deep water and take one step and be in deep water
- Know where lifeguards are stationed and known how to call and wave for help

- If caught in fast flowing water or rapids float feet first in a half sitting position
- Check the current before entering the water, if conditions are to rough don't swim
- Never turn your back to the ocean, it is unpredictable
- Follow safety regulations and lifeguard directions
- Don't swim near piers, jet-skies, and boats.
- Read water condition signs and stay within the designated swim areas
- Be aware of aquatic life and stinging beach animals such as jellyfish
- Make sure to bring enough liquid for the day to stay hydrated
- Know the beach safety flags
- Mark a reference point on the shore to avoid drifting too far out in the ocean
- Don’t swim if the water and weather conditions are poor
- Never let your child swim in the ocean alone, even if he/she knows how to swim
- Never go swimming at night
- Supervise your child in the water at all times and stay close together
- Check surfing conditions before entering the water
- Learn to swim
